~Voices from the Circle~

From Cindy Spring, Director of WC:

Greetings to everyone visiting this site today. We are pleased and amazed to watch the number of website "hits" for Wisdom Circles grow. In May, it went over 10,000 for the month. Even with that many visits, we get few emails from people letting us know how their circles are going. In speaking with people in circles around the country, it's clear that a wisdom circle becomes a very personal and intimate gathering and most people are understandably reluctant to share a story. Confidentiality is one of the main ways that a circle stays "safe" for telling our truths.

Even though I could easily make this column simply a journal of my own circle experiences and those of others I'm in contact with, I won't do that. Instead, we're shifting the format of "Voices from the Circle" to quarterly rather than monthly. We still encourage you to submit "news" and stories that are "sharable" to us when you can. And you can just email us with a comment. Only when I know we have your complete permission to put something in "Voices" will it show up. (I call or write the person.) The circle continues to expand. There's a new book on circles titled, I believe, The Millionth Circle, by Jean Shinoda Bolen, coming out in the fall. I'm sure it will be good.

From someone after he called his first circle:

Last night when the doorbell rang at 7:25, Mary was the first to arrive. When she asked how I was I said "nervous" which was an understatement. I realized how much energy I had invested in inviting these six people to my home, and how much I deeply cared that it be successful. As it turned out, each one of them was a shining light that behaved as though (being in circle) was the most natural way to be and as if they'd been in circles all their lives. I take no credit for this happening, only gratitude at how effortlessly each person bonded with the others.
